Post-Insomnia Fixes
Heya!
We'd like to start by saying thank you to everyone who played the demo at Insomnia Gaming Festival recently. It was amazing for us to see so many people enjoying our game and we got some really great feedback. We attended i71 as part of the Tranzfuser 2023 showcase, which offers new indie studios the opportunity to develop a project and show it to the public after a few months of development. It was a great opportubity and we all enjoyed taking part!
We also have a Discord server now so feel free to join for development updates and to discuss your thoughts on the game. We'd love to see you there. The server itself will be undergoing some structural changes over the next few weeks to make sure we have a strong, functional foundation for the community as it grows.
A updated and fixed version of the Insomnia demo has now been uploaded to the itch page, along with some new screenshots and the updated thematic cut of the trailer. There are quite a few differences between the Insomnia demo and the previous demo, as we made some very fundamental changes to gameplay throughout August. Upgrade systems and combat screens have been removed, shifting the focus of the game away from memory and towards speed and communication. We feel this puts greater emphasis on the team dynamic that is so important to couch co-op games and gives you more room to show your increasing skills.
There isn't much to say about some of the smaller changes, only that they should make the game feel a lot more playable. However, one important change we should note is that you can no longer run out of orders! We had some really keen players at i71 who came back to play the game quite a few times. They beat our dev high score, then beat their own high score a couple times, and managed to get through all the orders faster than the game generated them. It wasn't something that we'd needed previously as nobody had ever done that well! As such, if you run out of orders, the game will now generate a new one immediately, meaning you never run out of things to do.
We're also reviewing our path forward with the project currently and looking at a variety of ways to continue development so we'll update you all once we have more information.
We hope you all enjoy the new demo and look forward to seeing what scores you're able to achieve.
Thanks so much for reading!
